Two mega pop stars, a quickie wedding, and a coming out story – it all took place one night in 2004 in Sin City.

Sound convoluted? Lance Bass explains it best.

In 2004, two years before publicly coming out as gay, the former member of *NSYNC showed up in Las Vegas for Britney Spears’ first wedding.

You might recall that Spears married her childhood friend Jason Alexander in early 2004. You might also remember that one of Bass’ bandmates was Justin Timberlake, Spears’ ex.

The pop diva’s decision to marry Alexander can only be described as a spur of the moment idea, evidenced by the fact that the marriage was annulled 55 hours later. But before that could happen, she was naturally panicked. That’s where Bass comes in.

“It was the night that she got married the first time in Vegas to Jason. So I went up to Vegas to kind of see the craziness that was happening. And she was a little upset once she realized what she had done because, you know, it was a funny thing,” said Bass on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.

“And then she started, like, really crying and, like, she was so upset.”

“And so I took her to her room and we were sitting on her bed and she wouldn’t stop crying, so I was like, ‘I’m gay,’” he continued. “And it made her stop crying… She chuckled.”

Bass also shared that Spears was one of the first few people to know about his sexuality. He came out publicly in 2006, and married his husband, Michael Turchin, in 2014.

As for Spears, she turned her luck around in Las Vegas with a successful residency, “Britney: Piece of Me,” which ran from 2013 to 2017.

Unfortunately, her second residency, “Britney: Domination,” which was to debut in early 2019, was canceled. At the time, Spears cited her father’s failing health as the reason the show would not go on, but reports have since surfaced that poor ticket sales could have factored into the decision as well.
